The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has charged all Nigerians to use the occasion of the Independence Day celebration for sober reflection and make a conscious effort to know their HIV status.

The Director General of NACA, Dr Aliyu Sanni assures Nigerians that they, with the help of the present government, will strategically put measures in place to make HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) available and free to all Nigerians irrespective of where they reside.

“If we can reach all Nigerians with HCT, it will be easier to reduce new infection and place individuals who have tested positive to HIV on life saving Antiretroviral, which in itself is a preventive in getting to zero.”

“As Nigeria celebrates her 56th years Independence, we congratulate Nigerians on their resilience towards national development. Having made several giant strides as a country including the curbing of Ebola and Polio, one other challenge we hope to overcome is the HIV/AIDS epidemic among other issues”.
