NATIONAL Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA) in collaboration with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) yesterday commenced a four-day free medical outreach programme providing HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) for persons in the state.

There was special emphasis particularly on the key population made up of Female Sex Workers (FSW), Men Sex Men (MSM) and Injective Drug Users, the major drivers of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

There was however a stir when some persons protested the placement of the picture of a lawmaker representing Egor/ Ikpobha Okha Federal Constituency, Ehuiozuwa Agbonayinma as they say it was an indication the programme which was supposed to be national is sponsored by him.

He is the chairman, House Committee on Health.

They later participated in the programme after being convinced that there was nothing political about the placement.

Director General, National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA),Dr. John Idoko who described the initiative as an effort by the Federal Government to stamp out HIV/AIDS through its national response mandate noted that Edo state though not a prevalent state was considered as one to benefit from the free medical outreach coordinated to curtail HIV through the Integrated Disease Approach.
