NGOs to support Ondo on health care delivery


AIDSIn order to ensure improved health care delivery in Ondo state, the Civil Societies Organisation (CSO) is to partner the state government to ensure the realization of its health programmes

The organisation, which comprises of several non-governmental organisations in the state, has met with the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju during which they outlined the strategies for ensuring that health care delivery is improved upon in the state

Martin-Mary Falana, the Executive Director of Kids and Teens Resource Centre who led the delegation, said non-governmental organisations on cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, tuberculosis and other health-related networks are united on a platform to support government policies.

Falana said the partnership entails policy formulation, planning, community mobilisation, social sensitisation and research for full implement of the Universal Health Coverage initiative, which make the rich pay for the health bills of the poor.

“The civil society platform on health is a national platform that has its state chapters to complement the efforts of government at all levels and enhance all inclusive implementation,” he said.

The director noted that the partnership through Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative (GAVI), which is an international, has enabled the CSOs to make health interventions accessible and affordable to the people.

“GAVI believes that if we must achieve anything in the health sector, the civil societies must be united. The support is given to an umbrella body in Nigeria called Association of Civil Society Organisations on Malaria, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN),” he said.

CSO disclosed that the recent advocacy visits to the House Committee on Health, the Primary Health Care Development Board and other relevant stakeholders put it at vantage position to maximise results.

Adeyanju assured that the state government would work with the civil societies to ensure it deliver on its health programmes
