Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said that its Air Task Force of operation Lafiya Dole has destroyed a Boko Haram camp and killed several terrorists at Ngwuri Gana in Borno state.

A video released by the air force shows structures reported to be camps for members of the terrorist group in a community which NAF targeted with fighter jets and attack helicopters being set on fire.

The attack was in response to reports that members of the Boko Haram sect had planned to launch an attack on troop positions from the identified settlement.

The bombings led to the death of many of the terrorists and the destruction of the group’s communication centre where its flag was hoisted.

The operation, according to NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, was carried out based on intelligence reports indicating that the settlement was one of the other locations from where the insurgency group launch attacks against government security troops and residents in the area.

“The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole, yesterday, destroyed a Boko Haram camp and neutralised several terrorists at Ngwuri Gana in Borno State,” NAF spokesman Daramola said in a statement.

“The operation was carried out based on human intelligence reports indicating that the settlement was one of the locations from where terrorists launch attacks against troops’ positions and villages around the general area of Kumshe.”

“Accordingly, the ATF launched a coordinated attack on various targets within the settlement employing Alpha Jet and F-7Ni aircraft as well as Mi-35 attack helicopters leading to the destruction of BHT Communication Centre,” Daramola said.

Daramola added that “the NAF, working in concert with surface forces, will sustain the tempo of operations with a view to destroying all remnants of the terrorists in Borno State”.
