Housewife arrested in Ogun for attempted murder of two-year- old stepdaughter

A TWENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD woman, Mrs. Christiana Faturoti, who allegedly attempted to murder her two-year-old stepdaughter (name withheld) has been arrested by the Ogun State Police.

The suspect resides at No. 44, Ago-Owu Compound, Itori in Ewekoro

Local Council of the State, according to the police.

She allegedly used cello tape to cover her stepdaughter’s mouth, tied her two hands behind her and dumped her in a room and left for work. The suspect is a petrol attendant.

The Guardian gathered that despite her condition, the victim managed to scream continuously, which attracted passersby who alerted the police.

The police were said to have raced to the scene, forced the door open and rescued the victim, who, at that time, had become very weak and in “dangerous” condition.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital while the suspect was arrested at her place of work.

The victim is said to be responding to treatment.

The biological mother of the victim had divorced from the father.

A police source told The Guardian that in her statement to the police, the suspect explained that she took that action because her husband was paying “more attention” to the victim than her.

The Ogun State Police Command’s Spokesman, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, disclosing that the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation.

He declared: “It is a criminal offence. That should not be swept under the carpet.

“Everybody is surprised over the action of the woman. How can you beat your step daughter into coma, tie her mouth and hands? It is not only barbaric it is criminal. The woman would be charged to court.”

He, however, called on parents whose children reside with any relative to ensure adequate monitoring to prevent such ugly development.
