ALL Progressives Solidarity Front has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cultivate the idea of promoting statutory recognised institutions, instead of individuals.

The group, which made the assertion in a statement Friday, stressed that the call was imperative in view of the “increase in the cry for the APC against removal from office of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega”.

The statement issued on behalf of the group by the Coordinator, Mr.Deji Enisenyin, in Abeokuta, said, “the forthcoming general elections are not about Prof.Attahiru Jega conducting the elections, but about the INEC conducting a free, fair and generally acceptable general elections”.

Enisenyin said that the country’s constitution recognises INEC, and not an individual, saying “what Nigeria as a country lacks, and what the so-called opposition party should be seen to be promoting is that institutions ought to be strengthened”.

The group added: “The same scenario befell the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission

(EFFC) when the Nigerian populace promoted the then Head of the commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as against the commission, forgetting that what we need to build and promote is the institution.”

The group explained that if Jega as the head of INEC was unable to carry out his assignment, such scenario would not stop Nigeria from moving forward.

“Inciting the populace against the government should the INEC Chairman leave office before June 2015 is not the way forward. The call for chaos and anarchy is equally not the way to do it,” the group said.
