Obiano made the promise when a delegation of the Council of the Wise led by its Coordinator, Ms Joke Silva, paid him a courtesy visit in Awka.

The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, said that the state government was putting everything in place to ensure that elections in the state were peaceful.

He said that it was the policy of government for every resident of the state to live in peace and harmony.

“We believe in peaceful coexistence for all in the state,” he said.

The governor stressed that his administration had showed leadership by providing security and other basic infrastructure for the people.

He said that Nigeria as a country must be decisive in taking decisions by conducting credible and transparent elections in 2015.

“We can achieve a better society for our people when all stakeholders sit together to dialogue on national issues instead of sectional,” he said.

He maintained that he was opposed to anything that would lead to the disintegration of the country.

Earlier, Silva had urged politicians to desist from propagating hate messages.

“As a people, we have a great future that cannot be truncated by a few selfish individuals,” she said.

She also urged politicians, who lose elections, to always accept defeat in good faith.

The veteran Nollywood actress implored Nigerians to support INEC in the conduct of credible and peaceful elections.

She said the council was working with traditional and religious leaders as well as civil society groups whose contributions were critical to peaceful elections in the country
