While describing the road as a strategic petroleum distribution network route in the country, the Ogun lawmaker, during the Plenary Session at the House on Tuesday, said “the road hosts several strategic installations and industrial plants such as the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited (PPMC).”
According to him: “The deplorable condition of the Sagamu- Mosimi section of the road continuously poses great danger to lives and property in the surrounding communities, causing high rate of fatal crashes, creating gridlock and quite unfortunately, providing ample opportunities for armed robbery attacks on commuters and residents.”
He added that the strategic nature of this petroleum distribution network route necessitated heavy vehicular traffic, mainly petrol tankers and other haulage vehicles servicing the industries in the axis, hence the need for urgent intervention by the Federal Government.
He stressed that due to the bad state of the road and inflammable nature of the products being regularly conveyed, it had become imperative for the Federal Government to give prompt attention to it.
Adebutu, who revealed that he had received several petitions from the local communities, which decried the state of the road, said that apart from raising the Motion on Infrastructure in the House, he would also be working assiduously with the House Committee on Works to ensure that the reconstruction of the road was on the priority list of the 2016 Budget proposals of the Federal Ministry of Works.
He reassured members of the public, particularly the residents of Ogijo and Sagamu, that the matter of the Sagamu – Ogijo- Mosimi – Ikorodu Road was on the front-burner for prompt legislative action.
