Okowa receives interim report on Ogbe-Ijaw, Aladja crisis

Solution to the Ogbe-Ijaw and Aladja crisis may be in sight, as the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday met the feuding parties at the Government House Annex, Warri.

Also in the meeting were the commanders of the security agencies.Okowa received an interim report from the committee set up to proffer a lasting solution to the communal crisis that has rocked the communities.

The governor told journalists after a closed-door Security Council meeting, that lasted more than four hours, that the meeting was about finding a lasting solution to the communal clashes.

The committee chairman, Prof. Abednego Ekoko delivered the interim report, which was witnessed by leaders of Ogbe-Ijaw community in Warri South-West and Aladja community in Udu Local Council areas of the state.

Okowa had in May 2016, inaugurated an eight-man committee, urging them to define, survey and demarcate the extent of the land in dispute.The committee was also charged with recommending the action to be taken by the state government and sustain mutual inter-communal relations.

Okowa said that other security issues concerning the state were discussed, adding that the communities were comfortable with the interim report as presented. The governor said the committee would continue with its work and expressed satisfaction that there was peace in the communities.He urged the people to sustain the new-found peace in the state.
