Less than 24 hours to when Ondo State will go to polls to elect Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s successor, a factional candidate of the State’s ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who sacked by the appeal court, Jimoh Ibrahim, has praised the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Akeredolu, as an ideal person to lead the state.

“The people of Ondo have no choice than to love Akeredolu. I know him as a selfless politician with peerless leadership. #OndoLoveAkeredolu,” Ibrahim tweeted on Friday.

The Appeal Court on Wednesday had ruled in favour of Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP, and backed by Mimiko, as the authentic candidate of the party in the election.

Ibrahim expressed his disapproval of the ruling and insisted that he remained the candidate of the party.

He said: “The court did not make a consequential order asking INEC to remove my name; so nobody can remove my name from the ballot,” Ibrahim tweeted on Thursday. “The judgment is very vague; it is nebulous and ambiguous. INEC cannot dare to remove my name.”

But his positive words on APC’s Akeredolu may be a signal that he had given up on his quest to become the governor of Ondo State. He insisted that that Akeredolu was a better choice that his intra-party rival Jegede and Alliance for Democracy’s candidate, Olusola Oke, whom he referred to as a desperate politician.

“I can see #OndoLoveAkeredolu everywhere. Why won’t the people of Ondo Love Aketi? He’s a consistent politician with first class integrity,” he said.
