Osibanjo, Ambode, Kumuyi task Nigerians on graft, ethnicity, others

Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Governor Akinwumi Ambode and the General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry Worldwide, Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi, have called on Nigerians to shun corruption and seek God’s intervention in Nigeria’s myriad of challenges.

During a service organised at the church headquarters by the Lagos State government to mark the country’s 58th independence anniversary yesterday in Gbagada, they noted that for Nigeria to thrive, the citizenry must rise above personal interests.

Osibanjo who spoke on the theme, Coming of Age, pointed out that the country had come of age and would continue to make progress if only Nigerians would eschew corruption, unrighteousness and ethnicity.

“We have come of age and like Moses, we must be able to leave certain things behind like corruption and stealing of public funds, rejecting ethnicity, divisions and obey the instructions of God,” he stated.

The vice president cited Moses, who rejected what God disliked and through his obedience, the children of Israel were able to cross the Red Sea.

The former Lagos Attorney General challenged Christians to make their ways perfect before God, stressing that the future of the nation lies in their hands.

Assuring Nigerians of God’s intervention through prayers, he added that whatever the nation had lost, the Almighty creator would restore.

On his part, Ambode charged the church to continue to preach peace, unity, integrity and religious tolerance.

He pledged to sustain good governance for Lagosians, adding that his government would continue to work hard to ensure that the potentials of the nation were fully realised for future generations.

The governor thanked the church for its social corporate responsibility by building a bridge and fixing traffic lights to decongest the locality.

He promised completing the six inner roads within Gbagada, awarded in 2017, by the first quarter of next year.

In his remarks, Kumuyi said the nation was facing diverse challenges on account of failures of its leaders who rather played up their personal gains to the detriment of public good and welfare of the people.

Delivery a message titled, Becoming a man God uses beyond his generation, the cleric urged Nigerians to stop complaining and make a difference by seeking solutions to the nation’s problems.

The event was attended by over 40,000 dignitaries drawn from the legislature, diplomatic corps, corporate world, religion institutions, academia, military, civil service and other key sectors of the economy

Among the personalities were Mrs. Bolanle Ambode; Pastor Esther Kumuyi; state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola; Aso Rock Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Malomo, and a team from Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in United States of America.
