Wife of the vice president, Mrs. Oludolapo Osibanjo is partnering with the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) ENGINE CDS to mentor the girlchild in secondary schools in Lagos. The campaign is to guide girls on the path to follow for a great future. The one-month program will focus on 20 schools in the state.

Already, Educating the Nigerian Girlchild in New Enterprise (ENGINE), a Community Development Service (CDS) group of NYSC has adopted six youths in Makoko community of Lagos to train them on skills acquisition.

The CDS coordinator, Mrs. Ezinne Uguru, while handing them over to their instructors, urged them to be disciplined during the course of the training as it could help empower other community members.

”You all have to be serious with your training so you could help train and empower others in the community.” She said

Corp members of the CDS group agreed to use Makoko as their adopted community and empower six people comprising of a male and five females.

On the reason for including a male she said, “ We realised that if the men are not properly guided, they could destruct what the CDS is trying to achieve with the women.”

Three are learning fashion designing; two, hairdressing and the man is trained on barbing.

To ensure the trainees continue with learning, she said corp members would monitor them.

“ The corp members are passionate and have volunteered to monitor the exercise weekly to ensure the students are serious with their training.”

Corp members, who have great passion and are committed to see youths, especially the girl child empowered, source the funds for the CDS programs.

“The corp members have been going about to source for funds to ensure the program is a success,” she said

Engine is a CDS cut out for the girl child with focus on the marginalized girls whether in or out of school.

The CDS aims to send girls back to school who haven’t completed their education and for those that have, empower them to ensure they are meaningfully engaged, so they can assist their selves financially.
