The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West yesterday insisted that the national chairmanship of the party is zoned to the region.

The Eddy Olafeso and Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe led executives that met at different locations in Ibadan were unanimous that the party should allow the next PDP National chairman to emerge from the zone “for equity, justice and fair-play.”

Olafeso said: “We are supposed to produce the national chairman of the party. But in a party that has six zones, we can only persuade and plead with other zones to see reasons with us and that is what the leadership of the zone has been doing. We still believe that they will see reasons and the south west will produce the chairman of the party. From 1999 till date, we’re yet to produce the chairman for the party.’ ’

The Olafeso led Executive also called on all aspirants to reduce their number in order not to jeopardise the chance of the zone producing the next Chairman come ‪December 9, 2017 at the national convention of the party in Abuja.

The Makanjuola Ogundipe appealed to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee of the party to follow the rule of law on the zoning.

The Ogundipe group also insisted that it remained the legally constituted and authentic party executive in the South West.
