High tension construction for electricity transmission

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company (PHED) has said it has lost nine 500KV transformers worth millions of naira to serial vandals at Aleto, Ebubu, Alesa and Alele in Eleme Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

The Manager, Corporate Communications of the firm said this in a meeting with the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Godwin Abbey-Ollo.

Onyi frowned at the reccurring activities of the vandals who had in the last two months removed armoured cables, cannibalize feeder pillars, drain transformer oil, among others, thereby throwing affected communities into darkness.

He called on the relevant authorities in the area to step up vigilance by accosting or reporting anybody with suspicious movement around PHED installations, adding that the vandals are not ghosts but human beings living in or around the community.

He said, the company has no provision for replacement of vandalized items, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck to forestall any act of vandalism.
