Police nab four over sale of six months old baby in Asaba
Pastor Arrested For Rape Of Child, Claims Her Beauty Overwhelmed Him
Police in Asaba, Delta State yesterday arrested three women and a driver for trying to sell a six-month-old baby. According to an eyewitness who gave her name as Victoria, she said the suspects arrived Coka Motor Park at Ibusa junction in a yellow taxi with registration Number AN165XX at 12:30pm.
While negotiations for the sale of the baby lasted, the park officials who smelt a rat, alerted the police who rounded them up.
The police officers, who spoke to The Guardian on condition of anonymity, said upon interrogation, the woman confessed to being the mother of the baby, adding that they came to Asaba from Enugu to sell the baby to a woman who promised them N300, 000.
Efforts to get the reaction from the Police spokesperson in the state, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, proved abortive as she said she was yet to be briefed.
In another development, a 48-year old pastor with a new generation church in Sapele (name withheld) was arrested by the police in Sapele Division for raping the 4 year old daughter of his church member. The suspect, identified as Godwin (surname withheld) convinced the mother to drop the girl with him for special prayers, when he raped her inside his office.
Similarly, one Edwin Amakare, 27, was arrested for sexually harassing a 16 year-old boy, while one Anthony Chukwuma was also nabbed for raping an eight year-old girl in Sapele.
Confirming all the arrests, the police state commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim Mohammed, said the suspects were arrested following reports by parents of the victims.
He said after interrogation, the suspects all confessed to the crime. He disclosed that the pastor confessed to raping the girl, but blamed the devil that overwhelmed him while looking at her physical features.
