The Anambra State Police Command has re-opened the premises of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sealed off following contentious power struggle between opposing factions over control of the party in the state.

While opening the office located at Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, yesterday, the Police warned the warring factions to be law abiding and encourage peace to reign in the state.

Spokesman of the command, Mr. Haruna Mohammed told newsmen yesterday, that the command decided to withdraw its personnel from the secretariat after a meeting between the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar and the factions, during which they accepted to maintain peace.

The commissioner, Umar had on Wednesday deployed some men of the command to the secretariat, following protest by a faction of the party’s executive against the setting up of a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party by the national headquarters.

The aggrieved executive members said they were disappointed that they were not carried along as their chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu and four others in the state executive council accepted to serve in the caretaker arrangement, which had Nwobu as the chairman.

A team of policemen led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, A. A John at about 1.20pm unlocked the secretariat, after which the policemen stationed there left.

The aggrieved exco members warned the state chairman, Nwobu not to hold any meeting or take any action on behalf of the party under the auspices of the caretaker arrangement.
