The police have begun a manhunt for an estate agent, simply identified as Engineer Bayo, and his accomplice, one Maleek, at large for allegedly defrauding some people of renting an apartment, situated at No. 1, Bankole Street, at Ijesha area of Lagos State.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Itire police station made this known to The Guardian after some persons who fell victim to the scam lodged a complaint at the station. When contacted, he said the property has been sealed while the case has been transferred to the Special Fraud Unit at Panti, Yaba for investigation.

One of the victims, Mrs. Gift Omane Williams, said in March 2017, she saw an advert placement of some flats and contact the number. “A lady introduced me to one Engineer Bayo. We discussed and later agreed to pay N150,000 for the self-contained apartment. He promised to give out the keys to the premises as soon as the house was completed, because it was an uncompleted building. Not knowing he had collected money from so many of us for the same apartment to the tune of over N5 million.”
