Protesters paralyse activities at PTI

The protesters alleged that while the youths of the host community are jobless the PTI recently employed over 150 non indigenes.

FOR several hours academic activites at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State were disrupted by hundreds of Effurun indigenes who baricaded the entrance to the institution.

The protest caused heavy traffic gridlock at on PTI Road, one of the major roads leading to Warri urban.

The protesters alleged that while the youths of the host community are jobless the PTI recently employed over 150 non indigenes.

A combined team of anti-riot police men prevented the protest from taking a violent form as some of the protesters threatened to torch the administrative building.

A staff of the of the institution who spoke with The Guardian denied the allegation by the protesters, saying that PTI is a federal establishment and that employment is based on existing government policy and that the institution does not directly employ people.
