Rector tasks students on practical work

Students in the nation’s tertiary institutions have been enjoined to place emphasis on the practical aspects of their training to secure for themselves juicy prospects after graduation.

Students in the nation’s tertiary institutions have been enjoined to place emphasis on the practical aspects of their training to secure for themselves juicy prospects after graduation.

Giving the advice yesterday, at the exhibition of photographs by final year students of Mass Communication, Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Oyelola said the industries were awaiting “graduates who can do rather than those who can tell.”

She commended the students, consisting of final year Higher National Diploma, National Diploma (Full and Part Time), for documenting through photo-journalism, the events in the College for posterity.

“You hardly could grasp the essence of these works beyond their aesthetics, but I tell you, you have chronicled for the future generation, and researchers who may wish to know what the College looked like in 2017 and that, on its own is an achievement you should all keep up.”

The exhibition consisted of framed works depicting the structures on Yabatech campus, and novel ideas around the College in 2017, under the theme: “Yabatech in 2017.”

Oyelola commended the Department for channelling young peoples’ energy towards creativity, and especially, the lecturers in charge of the project, Mrs. Olufunke Adesanya and Mr. Femi Olagoke for letting their expertise rub off on upcoming generation.

She was accompanied by the Deputy Rector (Admin), Dr. Raheem Omobayo; Deputy Rector (Acad), Dr. Wasiu Adedeji; Dean, School of Liberal Studies, Dr. Fred Fatuase and the Head of Department, Dr. Olumide Adedeji.
