Reps query Ilorin varsity VC over N42m hotel bills
• Panel flays Usman Danfodio’s N209m for electricity
The House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education yesterday quizzed the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdul Ganiyu Ambali, over N42 million spent on alleged frivolous hotel accommodation in 2015.
Members of the Aminu Suleiman-led panel who grilled Ambali during a session at the National Assembly yesterday faulted the VC for what they described as “frivolous expenditure without adequate details on the 2015 budget performance” and demanded that the breakdown be made available to them.
Kehinde Odeneye, who discovered the expenditure in the 2015 budget asked the VC: ‘’How can you have a hotel expenses of N42 million? How many days were spent at the hotels and who were the guests you hosted?
‘’Then, you have another N100 million as take-off grant for new departments without actually telling us how many they are and the things needed for the take off. There is also N50million on workshops and seminars. This is apart from the training grants obtained. Then, there’s maintenance of buildings which also is without details.”
