The Rotary Club of Lagos has restated its commitment towards fighting malaria scourge in its adopted community.

The club yesterday distributed free mosquito nets to pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of five at three primary healthcare centers in Lagos Island/Obalende area of the state – Sura PHC, Araromi health center and Carrena health post.

According to president of the club, Rotn. Eyi Braimah, the initiative is fueled by the passion to completely eradicate malaria and support vulnerable children and mothers.

‘’This initiative is part of our projects for the year and disease prevention and treatment is one of the six area of our focus in Rotary international.

We need to prevent malaria. We all know that the disease is so deadly and that why we have decided to give out mosquito nets,’’ he said urging the beneficiaries to make use of the nets.

Dr. Dapo Ojo, head of one of the health centers, commended the club’s gesture, saying: ‘’It is a good initiative, which will reduce incidences of malaria in the country’’.

He urged other organisations to emulate the gesture by doing something worthwhile for their host community to make their impact felt.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Alade, expressed her gratitude to the club for their support to them.

‘’I thank the Rotary Club of Lagos for their love and gesture towards us and I pray that the lord will continue to bless them,’’ she said.
