Senate screens Isa for Code of Conduct Bureau chairmanship position

The Senate yesterday screened the chairmanship nominee of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Mohammed Isa.

He unveiled plans to increase the effectiveness of asset declaration by promoting transparency and fighting corruption in public administration if confirmed by the Senate.

Isa, who hails from Jigawa State, said this during his screening with other members of the Bureau by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petition headed by Samuel Anyawu (PDP Imo East) in Abuja. 

He promised to involve all members of the CCB in the running of its administration, ensure that excesses of the staff members are checked and improve the administration of asset declaration through information, communication and technology (ICT).

He also called for more reforms aimed at improving justice delivery without necessarily compromising the fundamental principles of fair hearing and the rule of law.

Anyawu reminded Isa of the sensitive nature of the CCB chairman’s office, saying the era when sycophants and incompetent Nigerians were appointed into office was over.

He had earlier requested the permission of his colleagues to commence the screening pending the final security report on the nominees.

Vice chairman of the committee and Deputy Leader of the Senate, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, urged the nominee to support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in building institutions for the benefit of the country and Nigerians.

A member of the committee, Ubali Shittu (APC Jigawa Central) urged Isa to be fair, just and transparent in his dealings.

Earlier, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly (Senate), Ita Enang, said all nominees fulfilled the conditions of their nomination going by the provisions of Section 1(1) 2 and 4 of the CCB Act and have the approval of the senators representing their districts.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in November last year written the Senate seeking confirmation of 10 nominees of the CCB.

They are: Mohammed Isa–Chairman Jigawa; Murtala Kankia, Katsina; Emmanuel Attah, Cross River; Danjuma Sado, Edo; Obolo Okpanachi, Kogi; Ken Madaki Alkali, Nasarawa; S.F. Ogundare, Oyo; Ganiyu Hamzat, Ogun; Sa’ad Abubakar, Gombe; and Vincent Nwanne, Ebonyi.
