Senator-elect advocates continuous use of card reader
The Senator-elect for Niger East, Mr David Umaru, has called for the continuous use of card reader in all elections in the country.
Umaru, who made the call at a news conference in Minna on Tuesday, said the machine would reduce electoral fraud.
“I am sure that INEC has taken note of the challenges associated with the card reader machines so as to improve on them in subsequent elections”, he said.
Umaru said his term in the Senate would be characterised by people-oriented projects and Bills impacting on the economy.
He added that the programme of his predecessor, the late Sen. Awaisu Kuta, would be continued to address the yearnings of the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the Niger East Senatorial seat became vacant with the death of Kuta in his second term.
Umaru contested a disputed bye election with Dr Shem Zagbayi of the PDP and was finally declared winner of the seat on March 28 after seven months legal tussle.
