The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has raised the alarm over alleged plots by one of the contenders in the Abia North senatorial election, Orji Uzor-Kalu of the Peoples Progressives Party (PPA) to manipulate the decision of the Court of Appeal.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, Ohuabunwa said that his major contender in the polls had allegedly been bragging about buying up Justices of the Appeal Court.

Ohuabunwa who also raised a point of Order on the matter on the floor of the Senate said that he would petition all relevant government agencies of the said justices are part of the panel.

He stressed that he was confident in the judiciary and in the uprightness of judges but cautioned that the bad ones are not used to mar the image of the Judiciary.

Mao said: “It is important for me to say that even in the midst in the perception relating to the morality of the judges I can stand here to testify to the fact that I still see that there are men of goodwill.

“But I stand here to caution because my opponent has gone around boasting that what happened in the Appeal Court was a child’s play where we were asked to go for a rerun.

“He has said that this time around he has the Appeal Court in his pocket and he is gone about searching and shopping for judges whom he believed that would be in the Appeal Court team. Knowing his antecedent and pedigree, knowing his capacity and propensity for mischief, I felt that I should bring this to the knowledge of the world.

“He has been going around bragging and boasting and definitely he has the appeal court in his hand and that this time around.”

The senator also used the opportunity to thank God for his victory in the election and his victory in the tribunal.

He pledged to continue to represent his people in the Senate stressing that he was being unduly distracted by needless litigations.

He further stressed that he would take the matter to the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) and other relevant agencies of any of the said justices appear on the panel for the appeal.
