Sierra Leonian donates to IDPs in Abuja

A Non Governmental Organisation, NGO, Jemy’s Charity donated some relief items to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs at the new Kuchingoro camp in Abuja.

 Coordinator of the NGO, Jemilatu Bangura said the gesture was in line with the founding principles of the organisation, which she said are anchored on core humanitarian values and support.

Bangura, a Sierra Leonian and an intern at the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS in Abuja, called for more support from both the government and other good spirited Nigerians to support the victims who fled Boko Haram insurgency in the North east.

 She told The Guardian while on the visit that humanitarian works have been a passion for her as it was one of the ways of giving back to society.

“I have being doing this for some time now and I have passion for it. I have done it in Sierra Leone which is my country, we have been to Ghana too and now in Nigeria. You can see that these people need help and there cannot be any better time than now” she said.

 Bangura stressed the need for the federal government to build befitting homes for victims of both natural and man- made disasters. She revealed her plan to construct a good Primary school block for the children in due course.

The camp coordinator, Philemon Emmanuel said they fled Gwoza, Borno state to find refuge in Abuja. He appreciated the concern by the NGO and pleaded for more support from good spirited people in the area of health.

Bangura said the camp has run out on drugs from at its clinic stressing the urgent need to re-stock the clinic especially with malaria and typhoid drugs.
