Presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has promised to tackle ecological challenges and infrastructural deficits in the south east zone.

He made the promise in Umuahia, capital of Abia State, when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, yesterday as part of his nationwide consultations over his 2019 presidential ambition.

According to a statement, the Sokoto governor, who described his aspiration as “mission to rescue Nigeria from ineffective and ineffectual leadership”, lamented the multiplicity of security challenges that the nation is currently faced with.

He pledged to provide responsive and responsible leadership that would comprehensively tackle “insecurity, impunity and lack of transparency in the conduct of government business.”

Tambuwal vowed to make NNPC more accountable. “We shall ensure that there is proper accounting by the NNPC.

The nation has to know how much crude oil we are getting out daily and the amount of revenue that is derivable therefrom.”

According to him, “NNPC has constituted itself into a government of its own and operates as if it is not accountable to anyone.

The states are continually shortchanged by the Federal Government and NNPC. But all that will change when I’m elected president.”

In Rivers State, when he visited Governor Nyesom Wike, Tambuwal warned that the country was on the precipice due to alleged failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to address her challenges.

He said urgent steps must be taken to set the country on the path of development and rescue her from the abysmal performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We should be able to bring back our country from the brink. As it is today, this country is on a cliff and there is a need for us to pull it back,” he said.

Wike declared that except the country’s revenue sharing formula is reviewed, states will not be able to pay the new minimum wage.

The Rivers State governor lauded the leadership of the PDP for approving the hosting of presidential primaries in Port Harcourt.

He implored anyone who loses out to support whoever emerges in the interest of the party.

According to him, all presidential aspirants must conduct themselves in a decorous manner to advance the interest of the PDP.

“Tell Nigerians what you want to do for them. Sell yourself. Do not be desperate. If it is God’s will, nobody can stop you,” Wike told his visitor.
