The Guardian nominated for best newspaper website

Barely a year after The Guardian emerged as the print media house with the best news website at the 2017 Nigerian Internet Registration .ng media award for the second time in a row, it has been nominated for an award as the Best Newspaper Website of the year at the 2018 Nigerian Online Merit Awards (NIOMA).

Barely a year after The Guardian emerged as the print media house with the best news website at the 2017 Nigerian Internet Registration .ng media award for the second time in a row, it has been nominated for an award as the Best Newspaper Website of the year at the 2018 Nigerian Online Merit Awards (NIOMA).

A letter of nomination by NIOMA chairman, Lanre Alabi, and the award administrator, Isaac Umunna, stated that the award was instituted to identify and honour organisations with the best, boldest, most original/creative and outstanding websites.

“The award evaluates and rates websites of credible institutions using the globally acceptable criteria of content – error-free website pages, best use of photography, clear and concise posts, up-to-date/current information, relevance of information to users and the number of visits; interactive user interface – its feedback/response mechanism, simplicity of feedback channel and user friendly site; best-in-design website in terms of branding, elegance, its sharpness and modesty of presentation; and the best use of social media to disseminate information,” the letter stated.

The award ceremony, scheduled to hold on Friday, May 18 at Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Ikeja, Lagos State, will be used to x-ray topical ICT issues facing the nation and will attract top government functionaries, industry leaders, market analysts, and professional groups. The guest of honour is the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu; guest speaker is Dr. Leo Stan Eke; and chairman of the occasion is Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, former Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
