Two people have been killed at Wereng Village of Riyom Local Council in Plateau State in a fresh attack on the community.

The lifeless bodies, mutilated beyond recognition were discovered yesterday.

According to an eyewitness, John Sule, the two men were brutally murdered in an ambushed by unknown assassins.

“The scene was too horrible. The deceased intestines gorged out. They died on the spot. Nobody could have rescued them considering the swords pierced heir stomachs,” he explained.

The villagers lamented that the security agencies in the area have been reactive instead of being pro-active.

“The security personnel are too civilianized to be pro-active. Most of them are civilians in security uniforms. Even if they are alerted of an imminent danger, they want the danger to happen before they respond just like ordinary civilians.

“They are only active and brutal when they are dealing with harmless civilians who do not bear arms, who they know will always obey whatever they do or say without questioning. They are landlords when it comes to issues of civilians but dodge their statutory responsibility of defending them,” he said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mathias Terna Tyopev, who confirmed the death of two people, said the incident happened about 9.30pm on Sunday.

“The unknown persons ambushed and slaughtered the two people who were on their motorcycles at Wereng Village of Riyom Local Council.

“The victims are Bulus Dantoro, 35 and Christopher Dung, 28. Immediately this happened and the news spread, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) there led an armed squad to the scene of the incident with a view to arresting the attackers.

“They recovered two sticks at the scene, took the pictures of the deceased and the long sticks. The Chincheng motorcycles the deceased were riding were also there intact. People were allowed to take their corpses for burial as investigation into the incident has begun to unravel the mystery behind the attack,” Tyopev stressed.

Speaking, Chairman of the council, Emmanuel Danboyi Jugul, condemned the killing, adding that they promptly reported the matter to the Special Task Force in the area.

He, therefore, cautioned the people to be more security conscious and avoid keeping late nights.

He suspended the All Progressives Congress (APC) council primary elections for fear of being attacked during the election.
