Two suspected members of a notorious robbery gang have been arrested in connection with the murder of a security man, during a robbery operation at MP Manufacturers in Lekki area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the suspects scaled the fence of the company located on Plot 25, Bisola Durotimi drive, Lekki Phase 2, at about 1:00a.m. in November last year.

They went straight to the guard’s stand, demanding for laptops that were newly delivered to the company. One of the guards, Abubakar Isiaka, who put up a struggle with the robbers, was stabbed in the ribs and waist.

His shout for help attracted his colleagues who rushed to the scene, to find the dying guard in the pool of his blood, while the robbers had escaped. Isiaka later died at the hospital, following the injury sustained in the attack.

Police sources said when news of the incident reached the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, he directed the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) to investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to book.

Consequently, the duo of Daniel John, 25 and Collins Archibong, 25, both from Cross Rivers State were arrested with the help of the network service provider of the phone that was stolen from the deceased.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime. According to John: “We did not intend to kill anyone. We went there just to steal. But by the time we got there we met the guard sleeping. But he woke up and engaged us and at the same time held Archibong and me. He was very strong.

“We stabbed him because he almost overpowered us. We went away with his phone and sold it for N9,000. I got N3,000, Collins got N2,000 while the third person, Bassey got N4,000. We had forgotten about the operation and were going about our normal work as security men at Lekki Residential Security when we were arrested.”

The suspects, according to CP Edgal, would be charged to court, even as he warned criminals to either stop their acts and turn a new leaf or leave the state for good.
