UITH CMD lauds minister for upgrading hospital

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Prof Abduwaheed Olatinwo, has lauded the decision of the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, to upgrade the status of the hospital to a special centre for medically confirmed complex cases.

Adewole had at a recent Town Hall Meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Information in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, sharply criticised penchant for “medical tourism abroad” among some privileged Nigerians, with a promise to halt the trend via adequate provisions of state-of-the-art equipment at some designated government-owned hospitals across the six geo-political zones.

The minister, apparently buoyed by some medical breakthroughs at the UITH, had announced the hospital as a “special centre” for the North Central zone.

The UITH, under the leadership of Olatinwo, had among other medical exploits, conducted procedures areas, such as renal transplant, open heart surgeries and  (IVF),.
