A non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Pathfinder International alongside the USAID and the Cross River state government have started an intervention programme called Saving Mothers And Giving Lives Initiative, which provides emergency transportation for pregnant women in rural areas that are due to give birth.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pathfinder, Lois Quam who was in the state recently with her team on a four day visit to commission a Solar Powered Blood Bank donated to the Nigeria Police Hospital in Calabar and visit four health care facilities that benefited from the Initiative, said their goal was to reach out to every location through the help of community outreach workers.

Quam, who is also the President of the organization, commended the Traditional Birth Attendants for keying into the programme by working in partnership with health personnel. The mothers, who narrated their experiences on how they have been benefiting from the facilities at Ikot Nakanda and Ikot Offiong Ambia Primary Health Centres in Akpabuyo local government and Calabar, thanked the organization for providing succor.
