The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has approved the appointment of a former Deputy Clerk of the House of Representatives, Mr. Edhere Uzezi Basil, as the substantive Clerk of the lower legislative chamber.

The decision was arrived at NASC 445th meeting presided by its Chairman, Dr. Adamu Mohammed Fika.

The letter conveying the confirmation of Basil’s elevation reads: “ I am writing to inform you that the National Assembly Service Commission has at its 445th meeting held on Thursday 8th September 2016, approved your appointment as Clerk to the House of Representatives. The appointment takes effect from 31st August 2016.

“The appointment which was based on the recommendation of the Clerk to the National Assembly is in recognition of your hard work, dedication to duty and responsible conduct as well as loyalty to the leadership of the National Assembly.

‘’It is therefore expected that you will continue to justify the confidence reposed in you by the Commission and the leadership of the National Assembly. Please accept my warmest congratulations.”

Basil replaced the former House Clerk, Alhaji Mohammed Sanni-Omoroli, who effectively took over as Clerk to the National Assembly on Monday August 15th 2016 upon the retirement of Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa earlier in June.
