Winning styles of Uyo Fashion Foward

UYO, the capital of Akwa Ibom State was in a frenzy mood recently, as fashion designers and fashionistas gathered in the oil rich state for the second edition of Uyo Fashion Foward. 

  Staged at the Aroma House, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, the three-day show, which saw different shades of styles on the runway, was a clear indication that Nigerian fashion has come of age.      

    The opening day saw Christiana Williams winning the Kardynal Style Selection Young Designers Contest with her fabulous cuts, while day-two witnessed a runway showcase by Keem Fashion, Trendy Johnson, Enzee Clothings and Mbana House of Styles.     

      The show wrapped on the third day with a showcase of statement pieces by Zhalima Grazioni, Basigz and Lavender by Ini. Accessories designers Uduak Akpan of Treasure Brooks Concepts and Glory Udom of Darche Pearls also showcased their jewelries to the audience. 

    Speaking on the show, the founder and producer of the fashion project, Ubong Ekanem of Kardynal Kommunikationz, informed that Fashion Foward is a quarterly fashion industry event that showcases the best of fashion talents and creates a platform for new talents to show their art, pulling together the crème of up-and-coming/established homegrown designers, photographers, models, makeup artists, hairstylist, accessories designers, stylists, brand managers and the media.   

    “We all know that Lagos is the centre of fashion in Nigeria, but what happens to other fashion talents scattered all over the country? This is why we decided to come up with this initiative and I thank God, a lot of fashion designers from this part of the country are taking advantage of it to launch themselves.”

    On the Kardynal Style Selection, which forms part of the Uyo Fashion Foward, Ekanem described it as, “a directional awards that spotlights and recognise the arbiters of style, the creativity that it takes to become same and also honour a few persons that have backed the industry and supported the development of talents in the fashion and lifestyle industry.
