Yobe Govt. constructs 90 toilets, bathrooms in IDP camps

The Yobe Government has constructed 90 toilets and bathrooms in four Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Damaturu , the state capital.

The Yobe Government has constructed 90 toilets and bathrooms in four Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Damaturu , the state capital.

The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Musa Jidawa, disclosed this in Damaturu on Saturday when he presented sanitary equipment and disinfectants’ to the four camps.

He said that the projects were embarked upon to check open defecation and promote personal hygiene in the camps.

Musa said boreholes had also been constructed in the four camps to ensure adequate supply of potable water for the IDPs.

“We have provided sanitary equipment for the cleaning of 25 toilets and 25 shower rooms at Kukareta IDP camp; 10 toilets and bathrooms at Muhammadu Gombe farms[ 10 others at Abari and 20 others at Kasaisa IDP camps,’’ Musa said.

He said 45 toilets and 45 bathrooms have been constructed altogether.
According to him, IDPs have been trained on maintenance of clean environment and will always be supported to build a healthy environment.

He said the state government would continue to support the IDPs, and urged them to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring cleanliness to prevent outbreak of diseases in the camp.

The Village Head of Kukareta, Malam Bulama Alhaji, commended the agency for providing them with the equipment to promote hygiene in the camp.

According to him this equipment will help us, especially at a period when the heat is at its peak with people sleeping in the open.
