Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari at the weekend signed the N115 billion 2017 budget into law.

Speaking after signing the document at Government House in Gusau, the state capital, Yari thanked the lawmakers for the quick passage of the budget.

The governor lamented the poor implementation of the 2016 budget, which he attributed to the economic recession. He stated the determination of his administration to improve the state’s internally generated revenue.

He assured the lawmakers and other indigenes of the state that his administration would ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the 2017 budget.

Yari urged the people to pray for economic development of the state.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Garba Rikiji, told the governor that prior to the lawmakers’ resolution, the legislature through its Finance and Appropriation Committee, invited relevant ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to defend their proposals according to the provision of the constitution.

He said the Assembly increased the size of the budget from N107 billion as earlier presented by the governor to over N115 billion and commended Yari for his effort towards developing the state.
