The Okitipupa chapter of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association (UIAA) gave the charge during the 2021 edition of its end of year get together that was held at Methodist High School, Okitipupa, Ondo State.
In his speech at the event, Chairman of the chapter, Mr. Wale Akintelure, who described alumni association as a veritable vehicle to foster development, lauded the contributions the national body of the old students has made towards taking the university to higher heights, including the intervention made when accommodation became a serious problem in the institution.
Akintelure urged all chapters and branches to support the national body to be able to execute its laudable programmes to lift the University of Ibadan, even as he appealed to old students who are yet to join the association to do so and take part in the task of developing UI.
The Okitipupa chapter pleaded with UIAA to ensure improvement in the admission slots that the university gives to the alumni association for the benefit of more stakeholders.
Other old students at the get together include Mr. Yemi Arikawe (chairman, planning committee), Prof. Olu Omosuyi, Mr. Funmi Akindele, Mrs. Idowu Ashogbon, Pastor Tunde Ademodi, Ven. Ayo Akinseloyin and Mr. Wunmi Akinmoju.
In a lecture he delivered at the event, Akinseloyin painted pictures of unimaginable rottenness in various sectors of the nation’s economy and in governance that constantly impede the development of Nigeria, a country that is richly blessed but is enmeshed in corruption, violence, poverty and insecurity.
To save the country from going into extinction, Akinseloyin said Nigerians must appreciate the fact that inordinate pursuit of lucre is vanity. He advised the government to sincerely fight corruption, uphold justice, provide adequate infrastructure for businesses to thrive, revive agriculture, provide employment and ensure equitable distribution of national resources.
