• Group endorses Buhari for second term The National Chairman of the National Action Congress (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, has declared his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election, expressing optimism that the 21-point agenda of his party will earn him victory. Agoro, who made the declaration during the national meeting of the party in his Ibadan residence, described NAC as the only hope for Nigerians that will banish poverty and other socio-economic challenges facing the country. He said both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had failed Nigerians and it would be presumptuous of President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a re-election in 2019. The NAC chairman, who was flanked by the National Secretary of the party Dr. Goodluck Nwachukwu and National Organising Secretary, Prince Sarunmi Babatunde Oladapo, identified failure of leadership as the major problem militating against development of the country and wondered why “Nigerians should be wallowing in abject poverty in the midst of plenty.”

The 74-year-old religious leader in active politics, who also mandated members of the party in the South-East geo-political zone to present him with a running mate not older than 50 years, says the time has come for Nigerians to elect a visionary and agile leader that believes in the principle of true federalism with each state being allowed to develop at its own pace, while the “ oneness and unity of Nigeria shall never be allowed to be challenged.” Agoro, who stated that his government would vigorously pursue rural development agenda and each registered voter in Nigeria would be given N1 million to invest in rural communities, promised that the era of treating corruption with kid gloves would be over and that all moribund national institutions would be revisited, revamped and brought back to life. “Manufacturing industries shall be compulsorily and aggressively assisted to produce maximally to meet home demands and export and all federal research institutes shall henceforth be adequately funded to meet global research demands. “Power generation shall be aggressively pursued and improved upon from the ever 4,000mw recurring to at least 10,000mw constantly guaranteed. Aggressive pursuit of security of lives and property of the citizens. “Free education from secondary school to tertiary stages” just as pregnant women will be having six months maternity leave once in three years,” he stressed. In the same vein, Fela Durotoye has on a live broadcast on social media declared his intention to run for 2019 presidential election. The 46-year-old motivational speaker said he had researched and scrutinised all Nigerian political parties for sometime and settled with the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN).
“In line with our values, one of which is to ‘be a role model worthy of emulation’, I had to decide to get involved in the political arena rather than staying on the sidelines and only challenging others to go in.“It is my hope that as I step into the political scene, many more of our brightest and best will arise to heed our nation’s clarion call to contest for elective offices, win the elections, and most importantly collectively deliver good governance to our nation.”He said the APC and the PDP could not convey a new Nigeria. Meanwhile, a group, known as President Buhari/Osinbajo 2019 Again, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, indicate interest of contesting for a second term. The group, which stated this at the Trade Fair Complex in Jalingo, also deemed it relevant to endorse the incumbent President-General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bobboi Bala Kaigama, for the number one position of Taraba State It alleged that the incumbent governor of the state, Darius Dickson Ishaku, had failed to fulfill his election promises hence the call for Kaigama to contest for the number post of the state on the platform of the APC.
