NIGER State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu has congratulated the state governor-elect, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last Saturday governorship election, describing his victory as the demonstration of the entrenchment of democracy in our where people will have a say on who governs them.

Governor Aliyu’s remark was contained in a broadcast to the people of the state yesterday during which he congratulated the Governor Elect of the state Alhaji Bello, who was declared winner earlier Monday morning by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said the outcome of the election, which threw up the APC candidate as his successor on May 29 this year, “demonstrates the entrenchment of democracy in our country in which the people have the ultimate say in determining their leaders.”

He therefore charged the Governor-Elect and his supporters “to rejoice with what Allah has done for them but remember to focus on the attainment of the collective development aspirations of Niger people as governance is a continuous unending process.”

The Niger State Governor however, used the broadcast to take a retrospective look at his almost eight-year rule and concluded that “we did our best” in the service to the people of Niger State. “Let me restate that you deserve the appreciation of our party for giving us the chance of serving you and doing the job in the last sixteen years however tough.” “I believe we did our best given the circumstances and succeeded in moving Niger State away from where we found it in 1999.

In fact you deserve my deepest personal gratitude for giving me the opportunity to win your trust by electing me as a two-term governor since 2007.” Governor Aliyu further stated, “ I remain grateful to you and assure you that I will continue to give my best in the service of Niger state in whatever capacity I find myself in the future.”

In the same vein he called on the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “not to despair with the outcome of the elections as Allah gives and takes power at will,” urging party members that they should all join hands for the rebuilding of the party to meet future challenges.

Dr. Aliyu called on the people of the state to continue to remain law abiding and peace loving because’ we have no other state than Niger state as such we must be more security conscious at all times, assuring that government will continue to support the security agencies in the state to effectively discharge their duties.

The Governor commended the INEC for conducting what he called ‘a credible electoral process which has the potential of improving our national image in the international community’.
