Nwankwo-7-2-15--

THE rousing political campaign train of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Njikoka/Dunukofia/Anaocha Federal Constituency in the next month’s general elections, Mr. Dozie Nwankwo, has continued to sweep across all the villages and hamlets in the three-council federal constituency, spreading the message of massive development, hope and liberation.

Nwankwo, a young businessman and philanthropist, has become a literal moving political volcano that has just erupted in Anambra State.

He had been touching lives discreetly in the state without any fanfare or undue publicity for over two decades; hence his eventual acceptance to join the political race suddenly raised the political bar in the contest for the seat in the constituency, across all parties.

His victory at the party primary was as dramatic as his joining politics and choice of political party to settle down in.

Some opponents had stoked some smear campaign geared at fleecing some funds from him, accusing him of working against other political parties and government. Unfortunately for them, the more they tried, the more they made him popular. It even got the youths and women of the state, who were so incensed, that sent a strongly-worded letter to the principal actors, warning them to retrace their steps or face their wrath.

His detractors even carried their subterfuge to the party primary, but Nwankwo, propelled by the people, sued for peace and concord, stressing they were all brothers and sisters.

He reasoned that since it was in the service of the people and for their good, it would be condignly necessary to have an open, transparent and widely acceptable process.

Nwankwo, aka Onye ndozi (the peaceful creator) assured the people that he was going to the National Assembly to attract more democracy dividends and poverty alleviation programmes that would improve the quality of life in the area.

He added that he was contesting on the prompting and collective will of the people and therefore ready to allow all aspirants have a clear process.

So it was that at the end when he emerged with an overwhelming majority of votes, he was carried shoulder high by all. Even the other aspirants joined his convoy and followed in a long motorcade for the White Castle Hotel, Neni venue through the Neni and Nimo and down to his Enugwu-Ukwu country home and celebrated together as a family.

Today, virtually all the communities, traditional rulers, religious/community leaders, professional groups, women/men/youth organisations and political parties within the constituency have resolved to queue behind him at the polls.

Also, most of his opponents have joined him and his campaigns in one capacity or the other.

Nwankwo is a household name in the state, especially his constituency, having given out over 3,000 scholarships, free medical treatment for over 60,000 constituents annually, skill acquisition, soft/revolving loans for businesses, Keke to over 500 youths, women/youth empowerment, widowhood support and over 600,000 free exercise books to pupils annually in the last two decades.

He has also sponsored foreign surgeries for serious ailments, given out commuter buses to youth, micro-credit and barbing/hairdressing salon equipment, and many others for the constituents.

Nwankwo’s campaign train has visited Nawgu, Ukwulu, Adazi-Nnukwu, Nimo, Abagana and Enugwu-Agidi, as well as Neni, Akweze, Adazi-Enu, Adazi-Ani, Abagana, Nawfia, Nri, Agulu, Agulu-Uzoigbo, Obeledu and Enugwu-Ukwu, amongst others, spreading his message of goodwill and hope for a better and greater tomorrow.

At each location, his convoy was received with fanfare and great enthusiasm by thousands of people who have waited for long to see the man that has over the years rescued them from squalor, ill-heath, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, cataract, rheumatism and hunger, etc.

As the crowd surged forward to touch and embrace him, he assured them that he was bringing the foreign medical team into the country for this year’s annual free medical mission immediately after the elections.

Chijioke Okafor, from Ukwulu, confirmed that this popular programme now occupies prominent position in the calendar of the people in Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia councils, who he described as visibly appreciative.

Okafor disclosed that his community always wrote a commendation letter to Nwankwo annually for his kind gesture and benevolence through the programme that covers general medicine, surgery, ophthalmology/ophthalmic surgery, lenses, ENT and dental surgery and has also given out thousands of insecticide-treated nets to the people.

Another community leader from Enugwu-Agidi, Chief Sam Oraegbunam, commended Nwankwo for accepting heed the call of his people to contest the electing, describing him as popular and experienced politician close to his people.

Though his benevolence acts have made him a household name in the state, Nwankwo is not leaving anything to chance. He has gone round the communities and continues to do, individually and in a group, seeking their votes, support and electoral mandate.

It was believed that with his ever-growing popularity within the constituency would translate into electoral victory, as the people said he merits it and has actually worked for it too.
