Former national caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, has debunked comments attributed to him over the status of defectors in the party, to the effect that only genuine aspirants should be given equal opportunity to vie for elective positions in the PDP.

The Campaign organisation of Senator Makarfi, while faulting the comments attributed to him, said the former Kaduna State governor did not criticise the decision of those who defected to the party to vie for PDP Presidential ticket.

The group, known as Makarfi Must Win 2019, led by Osama Groovydee Abednego in a statement, yesterday, said: “Our attention has been drawn to falsehood making the rounds in some quarters concerning Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi’s recent visit to Kogi State”, pointing out that the Presidential hopeful did not advise the PDP to shut it’s doors against politicians that recently defected from any other party from vying for the party’s ticket for the 2019 elections.

“For the sake of clarity, we wish to state that the presidential hopeful did not mention any names in his Kogi address and the words ‘undue advantage’ were not uttered by him in his address. The call was for caution in integrating defectors in such a way that all get accommodated without rancour. There is no fight with any returnee.”
