The Senator representing Kaduna Central on the platform of the All Progressives Congresss (APC) in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, says most politicians surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari are under-performers. He said they there were only interested in using his goodwill to win elections.

Sani stated yesterday in Katsina that most of the President’s political associates were pitching tent with him to get re-elected at the 2019 general polls. He said while the masses were sure to re-elect Buhari if he re-contests, same cannot be said of his “under-performing” politician friends.

The senator enjoined those occupying public offices to promote interest of the masses. The lawmaker spoke to newsmen in Hausa language during the two-day meeting of the Northern Senators Forum. His words: “Many of those chanting Buhari are being deceptive, including the politicians. It is only the masses that are truly with the President.

“It is not compulsory that those hiding under the Buhari mantra be re-elected come 2019 general elections, even though the masses could rally behind the President should he decide to go for another term in office.

“Many of the politicians and public office holders chanting Buhari are only doing so because they want to be re-elected, or they fear being arrested for allegations of corruption.”

He continued: “When Buhari was sick, many of the politicians close to him deserted him because they thought he would die. They were busy plotting what positions they would get.

“The public places at the Presidential Villa were empty, and you didn’t hear anything in support for Buhari when he was sick in London.“If politicians don’t work for the masses, they risk facing the same fate as other politicians in the past. We must work for the masses. Only then can we be confident of being re-elected at the next polls.”
