NYSC, tasks security agents on corps members’ safety

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brigadier General Sule Kazuare has asked for the security of corps members deployed for Saturday’s governorship polls.Kazaure also warned the corps members against all acts capable of derailing the electoral process.
  
He spoke shortly after visiting various security agencies in the state, including the Nigerian Army, Department of State Security (DSS), the police and others.The DG implored them to play by the electoral rules during and after the election.He said the safety of corps members was paramount for a credible election and sought the support of all critical stakeholders in the state.
  
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sam Olumekun, also appealed to them to be non-partisan and eschew electoral malpractices.This, he said, would guarantee a free, credible and fair election in the state.Earlier, the out-going state Police Commissioner, Chris Ezike and the Brigade Commander, 4th Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Bambella Raji, pledged their support for the safety of corps members during and after the election.

According to him, “it has been observed that no matter the modalities that the INEC has put on ground, the people must ensure that they behave in a civil manner to help democracy grow in the country.” Also, Prof. Mim Abutudu of the University of Benin, who spoke at the meeting, said the fear of electoral manipulation and rigging constitutes high-risk factors that trigger violence during polls.
  
He urged the INEC to ensure that materials are deployed on time to the various polling units.The Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation, Mr. Benson Olugbuo, expressed the foundation’s resolve to monitor and report the level of security threats in the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
