Protracted leadership crisis in the House, a distraction – Dogara

THE Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has lamented that the protracted leadership crisis trailing the newly inaugurated Eighth National Assembly is a serious distraction to the smooth take off and business of the legislature.
The Speaker who expressed dismay over the development while inaugurating a 21-man committee to help in the nation’s law reform process in Abuja yesterday, explained that the House was committed to the speedy passage of all major bills before it so as to impact positively on the lives of Nigerians, which he said the leadership crisis has slowed down.
He said the setting up of the committee was to facilitate a review of the various laws in the statutes books of the country which, according to him had become anachronistic and outdated, adding that by the provision of Section 315 of the 1999 Constitution, all existing laws, including military decrees were deemed to be Acts of the National Assembly.
His words, “The 8th Assembly has had a few distractions, but it is time to get on to the job for which we were elected. Apart from reviewing existing laws, law reform involves introduction of new laws where necessary.
“Laws that aid the anti corruption struggle, infrastructure renewal, efficient and optimal utilization of our petroleum resources, solid minerals, education and social services, agriculture, diversification of our economy and employment of our teeming youth population should engage our un-divided attention as a parliament.
“The good news, however, is that the 8th House of Representatives is resolutely committed to expeditious passing all major bills before it or submitted to it that will impact positively on the lives and well-being of Nigerians. This is the irrevocable undertaking enshrined in our legislative agenda,” Dogara said.
Members of the committee include; Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Razak Atunwa, Ken Chikere, Madubueze Peter Obiano, Olabode Ayorinde, Simon Arabo, the National President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Austin Alegeh, NBA Secretary, Mr. Afam Osigwe, Prof C. O. Okonkwo, Olisa Agbakoba, Prof Auwalu Yadudu, Prof Oyelowo Oyewo, Prof Joash Amupitan, Dr. Ladi Hamalai and Prof Okechukwu Okoli.
Other members are; Kefas Magaji; Mrs. Oguneye; Mr. M. A. Sani Omolori, C. I. D. Maduabum, Dr. S. A. Danwanka and Prof Ade Adekunle.
The committee has as its terms of reference to advise the Speaker and the House of Representatives on the legislative action required for the review of all existing laws with a view to incorporating all amendments and adaptations made earlier.
The panel is also expected to advise the Speaker and the House of Representatives by collating all existing laws and evaluating their efficacy and effectiveness as well as to assess all existing laws and identify areas that require reform or further legislative actions.

Dogara is just the junior type of saraki. He is as dubious as well. If not worst. He is so scared of gbajabiamila and knows the guy can make his life a living heĺl. He is now into divide and rule tactics, just to be able to gling to the speakership without much opposition. All of this started by dogara taking a cue from the way the president made those first few lopsided appointments. And i dare say, he, the president had better be more sensitive to the manner in which he makes appointments, going forward. Nigeria is sensitive to all this. He should know that people like dogara, are copying his every moves. Nigeria is a powder keg. Where insensitivity on national issues, can longer be tolorated. He is duty bound to search for the very best in all part of the country. He is not running his farm in kastina. But a very big and multiple cultural society. If he buhari want to go far with this presidency thing. His appointments from now hence forth, must reflect the true nature of nigeria. Not those he grew up with. People he work well with in the past. Those characters are all over nigeria. Thank GOD he said he is not in hurry to appointment others. Nigeria is very dicey, right now. And he can not afford to take nigerians for granted.
If you sincerely want to have an impact on our lives, you will resign immediately! How hard is it to understand that Nigerians don’t want you as their speaker of the house of reps? If Gbajabiamilla had benn elected, we would be far ahead by now, we would truly have the change we voted for.
Dogarat, you are a dirty rat, and you are standing in the way of progress fir Nigerians, if you are not there, we can move on, but you are forcing yourself on us when we keep saying that we don’t want you.
You will be judged and you will not like your judgement. You are digging yourself farther into a hole that will bury you. We are waiting, because we will carry this fight with you for four years if you like, but we will NEVER accept you!
We will review and take appropriate action.
