The Not Too Young To Run movement yesterday applauded the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara over assurances on the removal of age limits requirement for running for elective positions in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

The group, in a statement by Cynthia Mbamalu, remarked that it was pleased by the statement credited to Dogara, reaffirming his commitment to the passage of the Not Too Young to Run bill which paves way for youths within the age range of 25 to 30 years to contest for elective positions for the seat of Presidency, National Assembly, Governorship and state houses of Assembly.

The group noted that the Speaker’s position is a testament that the House remains a people’s assembly, adding that it behooves the Senate to emulate the responsive character of the House and give a public account on the status of bill in the Senate within the next 24 hours.

The group, comprising no fewer than 50 youth groups from across the country, commended the speedy response of the House and its leadership. “We invite citizens to join us on July 25, 2017 for the National Day of Action on Not Too Young To Run as we engage our legislators and press home our demand ahead of the clause by clause voting on new amendments to the constitution.”
