Ibadan wears new look for Splash FM/Integrity Marathon

Explaining he continues to fund the event, Ibadan high Chief and Chairman Splash FM, Adebayo Akande, said, “Integrity marathon race is coined to campaign for good governance, accountability and transparency in our governance. All and sundry should join in fighting corruption in our society.”

Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, will alongside Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, flag-off a full marathon, tagged ‘Splash FM/ICPC Integrity Marathon, on Sunday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

Also expected at the event is the Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye, who had earlier paid a solidarity visit to the radio station and pledged the support of the commission to the event.

The marathon, co-sponsored by the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, and Splash FM, an Ibadan based private radio station, is being organised by the Southwest zone one of the NSC.

About 1,000 athletes, according to the NSC, are expected to participate in the 42km yearly Marathon, which is in its seventh edition.

According to the organisers, the marathon will take the athletes through High Court ring-road, Mobile/Town Planning, Akinyemi, Iyaganku, Aleshionloye, Eleyele, Sango, U.I., Ojoo, Iwo road, Gate, Molete and Challenge before returning to the Stadium.

Also speaking on the event, the NSC South West Coordinator, Dr. Steve Olarinoye, said N2 million would be shared among the athletes. He implored all intending participants to submit their completed forms, accompanied with certificates of medical fitness from recognized hospital to the NSC southwest zone one, Oke-Ado, Ibadan before March 20, 2015.
