The technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has praised Edo State FA for putting together the South South Champion of Champions competition, which kicks off tomorrow at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
Chairman of the committee, Christopher Green, yesterday said the tourney, which involves all the states’ FA Cup winners from the South South zone, is a great idea for which Edo FA deserves kudos.
“It would be three days of great football in Benin. Edo FA has done very well in coming up with the tournament. It has the backing of NFF and we hope other state’s FA’s would be this proactive,” Green said.
Meanwhile, all the eight teams for the tournament have arrived in Benin for the competition, which is being bankrolled by Frot Group, a Lagos-based company.
Chairman of Frot Group, Frank Momoh, yesterday disclosed that the winner of the competition will get N1 million, while the runner up will take N500, 000.
Also speaking on the competition, Insurance FC Coach, Roland Ewere, said the tournament would help his side prepare well for the new season, as the club strives to return to the elite class of the nation’s league.
“I think Insurance would be the biggest beneficiary from the tournament. We are happy we were given the opportunity to be part of it despite not winning the Edo FA Cup.
