Worried by the alleged invasion of herdsmen in the Umuguma community in Owerri West Local Council, the Deputy Chairman, Obilobi Umuguma Council of Elders, Israel Oguike, has appealed to the relevant government authorities to intervene and call the cattle rearers to order.

Oguike, told The Guardian that their women were allegedly being raped by the herdsmen, while their crops yields were destroyed. He lamented that the group of herdsmen in their community carry big guns, which has made them not to challenge them, urging government to quickly intervene.

He said, “We are beckoning on the government to intervene and call the herdsmen to order. They should leave our community. See how they rape our women. They carry big guns. Can you challenge anyone with gun?”

On their lands, Oguike also lamented the seizure and grabbing of over 90 per cent of their lands by the state government, urging that such should stop.

He regretted that they do not have farmlands, adding that they find it difficult to cultivate crops and build houses.
