EDUCATION-textThe people of Ogwofia Owa and Oma-Eke communities in Ezeagu and Udi local government areas of Enugu State respectively, have hailed the initiative of the Nigeria Breweries (NB plc) for their interest in the promotion of education, especially at the primary and secondary school levels.

The communities were the latest beneficiaries in the Brewery’s

“You have seen for yourselves the beautiful and exquisite job done by the multi-national organisation for Ogwofia and crescent youth. I dare say that whenever we count our successes and our blessings, the contributions of Nigerian Breweries to Ogwofia’s well-being will be enacted on a bold page and that page will be written in letters of gold.

“We thank them with all our hearts and we believe that in their expanded programme of CSR, they will, still be soon around with more goodies for our rustic community. For now, we call on the holy and omnipotent ruler of the skies to prosper their business so that our shares from their profits will continue to grow in leaps and bounds”, he prayed.

The traditional ruler of the Community, His highness, Igwe Tom Inyama said his community would remain grateful for the project, while praying God to continue to empower the brewery company to enable them do more.

An elated principal of the Community Secondary School, Mr. Alex
Uzodinnia said with the commissioning the accommodation problem of the school as a result of dilapidation was over.

“Ours is now a modern school in a rural environment, which for the first time is being experienced in this part of Enugu State. What we owe this company is to make sure that these gifts are well utilised and used to build and develop our children for a better Nigerian society and the world at large”, he said.

Also a community leader, Mr. James Ona, while expressing the joy of his community over the borehole and toilet facilities brought to the
Central School, said the company had become a ‘great partner in the promotion of education in Nigeria”

Explaining why the company engaged in the projects during their commissioning, the Managing Director of NB plc, Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde represented by the Corporate Affairs Adviser, Mr Ofure Ekanem, said it was an attempt to support young children who are the future of the community and the country at large.

“There is no alternative to good water supply and good toilet facilities especially to pupils in a school like this. Their health is utmost and adequate care must be taken in this regard. Heineken Africa Foundation (HAF) was established in 2007 for the purpose of supporting healthcare, water supply and sanitation in sub-Saharan Africa in any Heineken operating company. This expertise, knowledge and resources of local Heineken operating companies is needed in order to make projects a success”, he said.
