2023/2024 admission: LASU invites Lagos indigenes for verification

Ahead of its 2023/2024 admission process, Lagos State University (LASU) has invited candidates who are indigenes of Lagos State for verification.

LASU in a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel A. Fanu, said the verification of Lagos State indigenes will begin on Thursday, 20th July.

Fanu explained that the invitation is for candidates of “Lagos State Origin who chose Lagos State University as First Choice in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and scored a minimum of 195”.

He noted that the Indigeneship Verification Exercise for the 2023/ 2024 Admission Exercise will commence on Thursday, 20th July, and close on Friday, 11th August 2023 while the verification interview will start on Monday, 24th July 2023.

The documents required for the IIVC screening exercise are the IIVC manual form, LASU receipt of IIVC payment, online data form, UTME form showing the choice of institution with UTME score, and O’Level result.


The other documents required, according to Fanu are two passport photographs, the applicant’s birth certificate, the father/mother’s birth certificate, a letter from Oba (not Baale) of the applicant’s town of origin, and letter from the Chairman of the applicant’s Local Government Area (LGA) of origin.

Fanu, however, urged candidates to note that the Indigeneship Verification Exercise does not guarantee or serve as proof of admission into the Lagos State University.

The official LASU further said that the opening of portal for online registration is Thursday, 20th July, 2023.

“For the screening exercise, the first phase is Monday, 24th July – Thursday, 27th July; second phase is Monday, 31st July – Thursday, 3rd August; third Phase is Monday, 7th August – Thursday, 10th August and mop-up is Monday, 14th, August – Thursday, 17th August.”

LASU also said it is only candidates who are of Lagos State Origin that are eligible for screening. Candidates in this category are expected to be cleared by the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) before being considered for admission.

The interview will hold at the following venues: Ikeja Division : First Floor, L & H Building, Faculty of Arts; Badagry Division : New TETFund Building, Faculty of Education; Ikorodu Division : Law Clinic, Faculty of Law; Lagos Division: International Business Class, MBA Building and Epe Division: School of Transport.

The institution said that old applicants for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions that have not been offered admission will only revalidate their indigeneship clearance certificates online at https://lasu.edu.ng with payment.

“All Direct Entry applicants who are of Lagos State Origin are to participate in this Indigeneship Verification Exercise before they can be considered for admission,” Fanu said.

“Any applicant who pays money to any individual/other account or through other means aside from the one above, does so, to his/her own disadvantage.”
