The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has warned the intending pilgrims of the 2024 Hajj against falling prey to the hands of scammers.

In a statement by Hajiya Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director Public Affairs, NACON alerted that anybody who seeks extra fare apart from the official cost should be treated as a scammer.

Fatima said, “The Commission has not requested pilgrims to pay any additional administrative charges beyond the stated amount and anyone that makes such a request on our behalf is violating the role and responsibility of NAHCON as the regulatory body.

“Collection of any extra charges are not authorized. Any pilgrim asked to pay extra charges should forward name of person making the request and location, along with evidence of the request or payment to the Security and the Commission.

“Such kind of documents, should be forwarded to this number on WhatsApp: 09071800007, and these guidelines should be adhere to official announcements from NAHCON, which are published on our website. Stay alert and protect yourselves.”

Before the closure of registration, NAHCON announced additional cost of N1.9 million for registered pilgrims who had earlier completed their N4.7 million initial deposit and N8.4 million for new intending pilgrims.

The increased Hajj fare according to NAHCON becomes pertinent following the rising exchange rate of dollar to naira.
